Material Properties and Performance

The combination of nylon and carbon fiber in SUNLU PA6-CF offers significant advantages for functional and structural parts. Carbon fibers enhance tensile strength and stiffness while reducing the material’s tendency to warp, which is a common challenge with unfilled nylon. The printed objects exhibit a sleek, matte finish, making them not only mechanically sound but also visually appealing. With proper annealing, the material can withstand temperatures up to 209 degrees Celsius, making it suitable for high-heat applications.

Applications

Thanks to its strength and temperature resistance, this filament is widely used for producing automotive components such as exhaust brackets and motor covers, mechanical parts like gears and fan blades, and durable consumer goods including tool handles, skateboard parts, and bicycle frames. It is also suitable for housings, fixtures, and other functional prototypes that require long-term durability.

Printing and Handling

To achieve the best results when printing with SUNLU PA6-CF Black, use a nozzle temperature between 270 degrees Celsius and 290 degrees Celsius, and set the heated print bed to 50 – 70 degrees Celsius. A printing speed of 50 to 150 mm/s is recommended depending on part geometry. For superior heat resistance and improved mechanical properties, printed parts can be annealed at temperatures between 80 degrees Celsius and 130 degrees Celsius for 5 to 12 hours. Good first-layer adhesion can be ensured with a PVA glue stick or a bed adhesive such as Magigoo PA.

As the material is highly hygroscopic, it must be thoroughly dried before use -either for 24 hours at 80 degrees Celsius or 4 hours at 110 degrees Celsius – to avoid issues like bubbling or poor layer bonding. Additionally, the carbon fibers are abrasive and will quickly wear down standard brass nozzles, so a hardened steel or similarly wear-resistant nozzle is strongly recommended.
