MINGDA PET-GF – Glass Fiber Reinforced PET for End-Use Applications

MINGDA PET-GF is a 15% chopped glass fiber reinforced Polyethylene Terephthalate (PET) filament, purpose-built for the FDM process. The PET matrix provides a strong engineering plastic foundation with low moisture absorption, inherent chemical resistance, and creep resistance under long-term load. Well-dispersed glass fibers form a mesh-like skeleton structure within the material, bearing the majority of mechanical load and significantly elevating the rigidity, strength, and heat resistance beyond what unfilled PET can achieve. The result is a reliable, dimensionally stable composite that requires no heated chamber and produces functional parts with no warping or shrinkage.

Smart Fiber Reinforced Technology

MINGDA controls the dispersion and distribution of glass fibers within the material matrix during extrusion. The fibers form a mesh skeleton structure that bears most of the transferred load, releasing internal stress during printing and suppressing the warping and shrinkage that typically affect fiber-reinforced materials. The result is a part that is both mechanically strong and dimensionally predictable — straight off the build plate, without annealing required for dimensional stability.

Mechanical and Thermal Performance

MINGDA PET-GF delivers engineering-grade mechanical properties suitable for demanding end-use applications. In the as-printed state, tensile strength reaches 65 MPa and bending modulus 3,733 MPa in the XY plane. Heat deflection temperature is 99°C at 1.80 MPa and 120°C at 0.45 MPa after annealing — making it suitable for elevated temperature environments. The high-regularity molecular chain of PET, combined with its rigid benzene ring structure, provides superior creep resistance compared to PA and PC materials, making it well suited for parts under sustained mechanical load.

Printer Compatibility

PET-GF is compatible with large-format MINGDA printers such as the MD-400D, MD-600D, and MD-1000D. It can also be used with MINGDA Support F-Green Quick-Remove Support Material, enabling reliable support removal on complex geometries without damaging the part surface — an important advantage when printing intricate end-use components.

Print Settings and Handling

  • Nozzle temperature: 280°C – 320°C
  • Bed temperature: 70°C – 90°C
  • Print speed: 30 – 90 mm/s
  • Cooling fan: Off
  • Nozzle diameter: 0.4 – 1.0 mm (hardened steel required)
  • Build plate: PEI film or PVP glue coating
  • Retraction distance: 1 – 3 mm / Retraction speed: 1,800 – 3,600 mm/min
  • Heating block thickness: minimum 12 mm recommended

Moisture and Annealing

Although PET has low moisture absorption, it is sensitive to absorbed moisture — printing with a damp spool results in oozing, bubbles, and rough surface finish. Store the filament in an airtight environment (below 15% humidity) immediately after opening. If the filament has absorbed moisture, dry at 100–120°C for 4–6 hours before printing. After printing, annealing the part at 80–100°C for 4–8 hours further improves strength and raises heat deflection temperature to 120°C.
